The Early Wonder beet (sometimes referred to as Early Wonder Tall Top Beet) was first introduced in 1911 and remains one of the most popular varieties. The smooth-skinned, round to semi-globular roots are exceptionally uniform in shape and interior colour and a favorite variety for leafy greens, sprouts or pickling. Early Wonder Beet is quick to mature so you can harvest the sweet, deep red, tender roots then re-plant the area with other more heat-loving vegetables. Since the roots develop and mature over an extended period, there's no need to successively sow seeds. CULTURE: After frost, sow thinly in rows 30-90cm/12-36" apart; cover 3 times seeds diameter with soil. Keep evenly moist. Thin to 20-50cm/8-20" apart. May also be started indoors 4 weeks before last frost. As seedlings appear gradually expose to direct light. When large enough to handle transplant to pots and harden by gradual exposure to outdoors.
